GLOBE.... In India. Schools.... 1700 Schools Participating. Students.... Millions of Students Learning. Teachers.... A key to the success of the GLOBE Program. GLOBE Measurement.... A gift of better understanding of our environment both locally and globally. A Complete Learning Educationally Meaningful Program. GLOBE Program fostered the creation of a countrywide green-network, comprised of students and teachers in collaboration with environmental scientists for the purpose of generating knowledge about the environment.

Infrastructure Development

The project would contribute to the capacity building of 800 schools through providing instruments, Internet connectivity and software packages to carry out hand-on environmental activities. These will include:

GLOBE specified instruments

Each GLOBE investigation has a set of learning activities that help students learn more about the science domains. GLOBE has specially recommended instruments for each protocol. A GLOBE kit will be provided to the partner schools to carry out experiments. Most of the schools are already having some instruments required in scientific investigation, these need to be calibrated before collecting data. IES will also carry out an inventory of regional scientific institutions, which can help schools in calibrating the instruments and provide technical support to the schools in constructing cost-effective and locally suitable instruments.

Internet connectivity

Internet connectivity is essential for reporting GLOBE data and communicating with the GLOBE schools around the world. The project would facilitate Internet access to each partner schools and the school administration will be motivated to upgrade the other necessary computer hardware facilities. Access to Internet will help students to visualize their data, explore information on environment and build up partnership with the other schools as well as environmental scientists.

Software on Environmental Research

During the project period latest software packages (e.g., MULTISPEC) on remote sensing, GIS and other areas of environmental research etc. will be provided to participating schools. Thus the project will facilitate scientific research through students and teachers and these may motivate school community to take up innovative environmental research / action project at the local level.
