Expected Outputs

The Program activities are expected to foster the creation of a countrywide green-network, comprised of students and teachers in collaboration with environmental scientists for the purpose of generating knowledge about the environment. This will help in development of appropriate environmental action plan and promote multi-sectoral co-operation in environmental protection.

Training and Implementation

The following project activities are planned to achieve the project goal:

1. Information Dissemination

Dissemination of information will be the first step towards promoting hands-on environmental activities in school system. IES will bring out brochure for promotion of the hands-on program and circulate those among the schools through the respective SDEs or other local agencies. A website will be developed and launched to disseminate information and establish linkages. The website will facilitate networking among partner schools, scientist community and scientific institutions. It will also help the GLOBE Country Director at the Ministry of Environment and Forests to address the query and disseminate information.

The schools will be selected based on:

a) Geographical distribution of the schools (rural and urban)
b) Availability of requisite computer hardware and
c) Willingness to implement hands-on environmental programs.

2. Stakeholder Orientation

A workshop will be organised which will involve key players - State Department of Education (SDE), MoEF, MHRD, NCERT, DIETs, School administrations, NGOs, Educational Institutes etc. The project components will be discussed during the workshop and operational plan will be finalised.

3. Teacher Training Workshops

Sixteen (16) GLOBE Training workshops are planned to train 800 schoolteachers from 8 States on GLOBE Protocols. Hundred (100) Schools from each State will be selected by the respective State Government. The training workshops will cover both theoretical as well as practical aspects of the environmental parameters to be studied under the program. It will enhance knowledge on critical environmental issues among the participants and build their skill in developing environmental research aimed at solving local environmental problems. The participant of the training program will be certified as GLOBE teachers to carry out hands-on environmental educational activities involving students.
